When Linda Brodsky, M.D., ended her ten-year gender discrimination battle with two powerful New York medical institutions, she was looking for a way to share her tale with other women. But she wasn’t sure what her next step would be—a memoir, an organization, a movie script?—so she opted to create an online hub that would allow her to begin building an audience that would follow and support upcoming endeavors.
Thus was born LindaBrodskyMD.com, a personal site that captures the life of Linda Brodsky and provides useful background and resources for other women in the competitive medical field.
In order to make her story accessible to visitors within moments, LindaBrodskyMD.com contains a condensed, interactive timeline of events; a video interview with Dr. Brodsky; access to her blog and digital e-book; news updates and a blog RSS feed showcasing her most recent posts.
Because Dr. Brodsky’s story is a long and detailed one, we offer visitors several ways to engage with it. For those who aren’t ready to commit to the lengthier e-book, but are looking for a bit more information than is offered in her timeline or bio, we created an interactive about page. We worked with Dr. Brodsky to identify 22 pivotal events, each of which is represented with simple illustrations. Visitors are prompted to roll over these illustrations to reveal a new piece of her story.
Aside from sharing her own story, Dr. Brodsky wanted to make sure that she shared some of the valuable resources she found along the way. The resources landing page gives visitors four options:
- Information Center: women's science and medicine organizations, legal resources & associations, and equal/civil rights organizations;
- Women in Medicine: a timeline of women in medicine in the U.S.;
- The Brodsky Blog: Linda’s personal blog;
- Share Your Story: An anonymous form where women can share their own stories of gender discrimination with Dr. Brodsky, who regularly acts as a mentor to other women physicians facing similar struggles.
To personalize the site in a way that would allow visitors to form a deeper connection with Dr. Brodsky, we created a gallery of images from Linda’s life at the hospital, with family and friends, and at events, as well as artwork her patients have created for her over the years.
This is one of the four sub-galleries within Dr. Brodsky’s photo gallery. Each of the 36 images is represented by a thumbnail. Clicking on the thumbnail enlarges the image and reveals a caption to describe the event.
