Founding partners Gretel and Kate pitched their first client while they were still holding down their old jobs. Not wanting to call attention to their plans by being overdressed all day, they changed in the elevator (Floor 17, going up) on the way to their meeting.
It was Gretel who first floated the idea to Kate of starting a business. Kate apparently said, “Wow, that’s a really bold idea. Let me think about it.” Kate remembers saying, “
Not gonna happen.” The rest is history.
Our first office was in a shared space in Tribeca, below the apartment of a formerly has—been, newly famous actor. Our current office is in Bryant Park, sandwiched between a place called Curry Dreams and Sushi Deli Box (we can’t make this stuff up), and above a bartending school.
Some time between 4:30 and 5 pm is the unofficial, yet very reliable, witching hour in our office. Without fail, giddiness seizes one of us, and it doesn’t take long for everyone else to fall prey to the infectious laughter and taboo conversations that ensue. Witching hour has yet to disappoint for entertainment value.
We pride ourselves on having infused the oversharing culture characteristic of social media into the real-life corporate culture of our office. As a result, we all probably know way too much about each other. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
On any given day, you can find someone in our office dressed to the nines for a business meeting, a hot date, or the like, someone else dressed for yoga or bed, and everyone else somewhere in between. This is to say: we’re not especially strict on the dress code. Whatever gets the job done.
