Gretel brings seven years of communications, media and public relations experience to Channel V Media. She is responsible for new business, client relationships, account management and just about everything else under the sun (dishes and windows not withstanding). Her favorite work-related pastime is chatting up reporters until they reveal their deepest, darkest secrets—which, for some reason, they do quite often. This makes her job a lot of fun. Otherwise her goals are to work hard, do great things for great people, and to not work with anyone who doesn’t inspire her in one way or another. So far, mission accomplished!
Prior to launching Channel V Media with partner Kate Fleming, Gretel worked at a New York City-based public relations agency where she handled several magazine and publishing clients, as well as the Custom Publishing Council and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). Gretel also made successful pit stops in San Diego, Chicago and Bloomington, Indiana. In San Diego, Gretel co-founded numberII magazine, a social commentary glossy that she insists is a cult-classic even if no one has ever heard of it. In Chicago, she worked as a marketing associate at Dynamic, a privately-owned magazine. She also spent a year at Chicago magazine, where she assisted in the development of special advertising features and coordinated issue launch parties as a part of their marketing department. Gretel launched her media career as a production intern at the Jerry Springer Show.
Gretel’s writing has appeared in Chicago magazine, Publishing Executive, Dynamic magazine, numberII magazine, The Green Magazine, BlackTable, JourneyBeyondTravel and others. She has written book reviews for two of Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S.’s titles, and posts from her various blogs have been picked up by over 200 online media outlets.
Gretel graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. in Psychology and a double minor in Spanish and Biology. She meant to pursue a career in neuroscientific research, but after a heated affair with the media (and an unsavory run-in with some very sad lab rats) she made other plans.
